Why Use AutoRun?

Use AutoRun for your CD/DVD projects to deliver custom Menus, Web Sites, PDF and PowerPoint files, video playlists, SlideShows, and just about any other type of presentation. You can even compress your projects into a single EXE for easy distribution.

The purpose of AutoRun is to give your audience access to your CD/DVD content. Any program can launch a file from your CD, but only AutoRun gives you complete control over how the file is launched, and makes sure your end users can view your files.

For example, what happens when you are launching a PDF file and your user doesn't have Acrobat installed? What if you want to give the user a Menu with a choice of several files to launch or actions to perform? What if you want to add some flair, like a background image over the desktop, splash screen, background music, slideshow or Flash animation? AutoRun makes all of this possible.

Additionally AutoRun can protect your CD content from unauthorized users and keep your files hidden from Windows Explorer.

How does AutoRun Work?

When you insert your CD Windows receives a message that a new disc has been inserted. If your Autoplay setting is enabled (which it is by default) then Windows will search the CD for a file named autorun.inf. This file lets Windows know what should be launched from the CD. In our case this is AutoRun. AutoRun then begins loading and displaying your project. Without AutoRun you would only be able to launch 1 file from the CD, and you would have no control over how that file is launched.

AutoRun has two forms of security: Disk and File Security

• Disk Security keeps unwanted users from viewing your CD. There are 6 types to choose from, including Serial Number, License Agreement, and CD Expiry Date.
• File Security keeps your project files compressed into a single file. Your files are extracted when needed, and deleted afterwards. This keeps users from being able to Explore the contents of your CD.

Insure your Project is seen by the Maximum Audience

Not all user's have the latest software or keep their software versions is up to date. This is where the Failsafe Program comes in. AutoRun will detect when a file can't be run and install the proper software to allow your user to view your project.

An example would be opening a PDF file, with the Acrobat installer as the Failsafe Program.
